THE MISSION

To provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one mentoring relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.

Big Brothers Big Sisters IMPACT

All children have equal potential, but they do not all have equal opportunity.  Our aim is the break the cycles of poverty and incarceration, and offer solutions to educational inequality.  Our kids are our future and they deserve a caring and compassionate adult in their lives.

Over the last 100 years, BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS INDEPENDENCE REGION has served more than 250,000 mentors and mentees in our region.  In 2018, we served more than 3,100 youth in our region, but, sadly, there are still more than 1,200 kids in our waiting pool, hoping for a mentor of their own.

Through a system of ongoing evaluation and support, we help “Littles” in our programs achieve educational success, avoid risky behaviors, build stronger relationships and gain greater self-confidence.
